Overview

**TICKETS FOR THIS EVENT ARE NOW SOLELY AVAILABLE AT NYMANS GARDENS, AT PERFORMANCE TIMES **

Frank Kingdon-Ward wants to be one of the world’s most famous and successful plant hunters. But on this night, early in his life, young Frank has many dreams, few prospects, an impatient fiancée and a despairing father-in-law-to-be. The only person who believes in him is a girl he’s barely spoken to. Will Frank have the strength to pursue his outlandish ambitions?

One for Sorrow is a 45-minute adventure told in spectacular surroundings. Wearing wireless headphones, you will step into the mind of Frank Kingdon-Ward as he tells a story that is beyond belief – and almost entirely true.

  • The performance will take place outdoors and covers uneven ground, so please wear suitable footwear and clothing.
  • You’ll be asked to wear a pair of wireless headphones for the duration of the performance.
  • The performance will involve standing and walking for the full 45 minutes.
  • To make sure everyone can see, we’d ask you not to use umbrellas or portable seating.
  • There is free parking but due to queues for the car park, please arrive 45 minutes before your performance time.
  • We can’t let latecomers into the performance, so please arrive in good time.
  • Audience members with access requirements should contact the box office before booking.
  • The show will go on in all but the most severe weather conditions. If in doubt, please turn up and we’ll make a final decision shortly before the performance is due to start.
  • The audience should enter the gardens through the main visitor centre.

One for Sorrow is part of The Seed, a summer-long adventure created by Goat & Monkey and David Varela. While each play can be enjoyed on its own, they are all chapters in a larger tale which includes an online story and a real-life treasure hunt. Find out more.

The Seed draws inspiration from the real Victorian plant hunters who collected seeds for the Great Gardens of Sussex. Many of the events portrayed are fictitious.

The Seed is part of the Ahead of the Game Festival. West Sussex celebrates the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games – Ahead of the Game Festival July to September 2012.

This event will be held at Nymans Gardens, Haywards Heath, RH17 6EB
