News Story

Nathan Queeley-Dennis captivated audiences with his witty and heartfelt one-man show, Bullring Techno Makeout Jamz. We love hearing what Prologue audiences think, and the response was unanimous: the show is packed with humour, honesty, and an undeniable warmth. Read some of their reflections below!

While the show isn’t autobiographical, it feels deeply personal as Nathan takes on the role of Nathaniel, a devoted romantic who views love as a masterpiece waiting to be created. On an unforgettable night he sets out in search of his Mona Lisa when he plans a date with Destiny…’s Child.

Winner of the 2022 Bruntwood Prize for Playwriting, this debut play is a vibrant love letter to Birmingham, exploring themes of Black masculinity through Beyoncé’s lyrics, the pulse of techno raves, and the intimate bond between a man and his barber.

I saw the show and absolutely loved it! I thought Nathan was so captivating and the show was so well written. It was so charming and witty. It is quite different to most shows I’ve seen at CFT which was really great - I’m really enjoying the variety of shows on this season. I didn’t expect to relate to him and his story, but as a recent graduate who has moved back home, that side of the show really resonated.

There were so many things that I could relate to and it was just plain hilarious! Such a beautifully told story, I’m so glad I was able to watch it.

This one man show is humorous and engaging. With a strong use of props, the captivating storytelling followed the story and life of a black man from Birmingham with themes of family and society. In just an hour, the essence of a black person in society was beautifully captured.

It was so funny and relatable, and it felt like having a nice little chitchat with a friend. I couldn’t help but feel like I was a part of the play itself.

I saw Bullring Techno Makeout Jamz last week it was amazing!! Even though there were a lot of Gen Z references, other generations were not put off by the humour but instead provided a comfortable, entertained atmosphere. The story was incredibly funny whilst also being honest and relatable. Was lovely to see a story about a different experience too!
