Playful Presence 

Our monthly drop-in sessions are the perfect way to try out a new creative artform in a relaxed, no-pressure setting. Come every month or as and when you can make it, each session is stand alone and low commitment.

Join Director and Facilitator Josh Whatsize in this practical acting workshop. Using theatre games and ensemble exercises, explore how play can spark new ideas and approaches to making theatre. During the workshop, participants will focus on building trust, encouraging collaboration, and discovering how playful methods can support creative thinking, team-building, and devising as a company.  

No previous experience in performing is required, but a willingness to play, be a little silly and work with others is essential. Games and exercises will be adaptable to needs and access requirements, if possible please make us aware of your needs in advance. We advise wearing clothing suitable for moving around in.
 

When and where do sessions take place?

This practical workshop will take place in the Roddick Room in the Steven Pimlott Building, onsite at Chichester Festival Theatre, on Wednesday 21 May from 2pm-3.30pm.
 

Cost and Bursaries

Drop-In sessions cost just £10 per person. You can book your space in advance or, as the name suggests, you can simply drop-in on the day.

Practitioner Bio

Josh is a theatre director with experience in new writing, international playwrighting, and ensemble-based work. He has directed productions at a range of regional venues and enjoys working closely with creative teams to bring ideas to life. As a facilitator, Josh has delivered workshops and projects for theatres including Mayflower Theatre and Studios, The Point, Wiltshire Creative, The Egg and Theatre Royal Bath, Chichester Festival Theatre, and others. He has significant experience leading youth theatre programmes and focuses on creating supportive spaces where participants of any age feel confident to try out ideas and take creative risks. Josh currently oversees the artist development programme at Mayflower Theatre and is a Trustee at the Corn Exchange and Arts 101 in Newbury.
