Get Into It Drop-Ins - Devising Shakespeare
About Get Into It Drop-Ins - Devising Shakespeare
Our monthly drop-in sessions are the perfect way to try out a new creative artform in a relaxed, no-pressure setting. Come every month or as and when you can make it, each session is stand-alone and low commitment.
Bring Shakespeare to life in this hands-on workshop with lecturer and Shakespeare specialist Stacy Hopkins. Over 90 minutes, you’ll explore how to craft condensed performances of classic plays like Romeo & Juliet, Macbeth, and Hamlet. Using improvisation and devising techniques, you’ll uncover fresh approaches to these timeless texts while having fun along the way.
When and where do sessions take place?
This practical workshop will take place in the Rehearsal Room in the Steven Pimlott Building, onsite at Chichester Festival Theatre, on Wednesday 15 January from 2 - 3.30pm.
Cost and bursaries
Drop-In sessions cost just £10 per person. You can book your space in advance or, as the name suggests, you can simply drop-in on the day.
We believe everyone should have the chance to take part, so if cost feels like a barrier, don’t hesitate to reach out and ask about our bursary scheme. For more information, email us at [email protected] — we’d love to hear from you.
About the practitioner
Stacy Hopkins (she/her) has been a performance educator, theatre maker and director for 15 years. She graduated from the University of Plymouth with a degree in Theatre and Performance, and has been lecturing at Andover College since 2010. Stacy gained a Masters degree in Shakespeare and Theatre from the University of Birmingham and the Shakespeare Institute in 2021. Stacy specialises in Shakespeare and reimagining the plays in contemporary settings and theatre with a social message. She has experience working with a wide range of classical and contemporary material and has directed work for the National Theatre Connections programme. Stacy experiments with merging performance styles and is inspired by embracing Jacque LeCoq's Le Jeu (playfulness) when making theatre. Stacy is a performance photographer and also adapts children's books for the stage.
Stacy believes that creating theatre should be an inclusive event and that often the most ridiculous ideas result in the most engaging performance work. She is inspired to create theatre in an ensemble approach and looks forward to meeting you in a creative space soon.
